What would you recommend NOT to see or do in Hawaii?

    1. Helicopter ride

It is really tempting. You see a ton of stuff in a short amount of time.

But they are fragile things. They go down all the time and one did go down while I was there. And the Hawaii weather is a little unpredictable. Clouds for on the mountain and then move quickly around bringing showers.

    2. Really fancy dinners

The food is good at most places, so don't worry about eating fancy all the time. People are also really casual on the island so you don't need to dress up.

    3. The Luoa

It is a staple of Hawaii.

And I really did enjoy it. But it was a little long and I was tired after a long day of fun.

And it was a little expensive. I would have been just as happy eating a pizza in my hotel room with a loved one.

Maybe that says something about me.

    4. Sunset dinner cruise

The sun sets fast and you don't want to be trapped on a boat after it's gone.

watch the sunset from the beach and then go enjoy yourself at the restaurant or bar.

Also cruise out in the ocean during the day

    5. The uninhabited islands

There are several islands that are sparsely populated. Lenai, Molokai. You can charter a boat to be taken over there, but you are basically on your own once you get there. There is plenty to do on the main islands.

    6. Shopping

Now I am not really a big shopper in general, so this might just be a me thing.

Don't buy a bunch of junk on the island. Support the local shops, but Hawaii is all about the outdoors, dont spend the whole time looking in stores. You can do that when you get back stateside.

There are a lot of cute towns, with main streets on the islands.

    7. The Ritz Maui

    Not worth it.

Very remote. No beach access. Super windy.

But really nice. So if you want great service and brand new accommodations, it might be for you.

I stayed at the Sheraton Maui and would recommend it.

    8. Timeshare

Do not buy a timeshare while you are there. They will try hard to get you coming back for the rest of your life.

    Avoid.

    9. Backroads

    Stay on the main roads.

The back roads turn into gravel with no guardrails off a cliff.

    10. Renting a boat or jet ski

I would personally go with a chartered tour group than rent something myself.

The locals no where to take you and can answer all your questions.
