Why I Haven’t Been Posting Lists
1. It’s Hard Coming up With Ideas for Lists
To me, a good list is a list of ideas that are important to me that I believe other people will also find interesting.
2. The Lists I Come up With Are Often Too Personal to Post Publicly
And trying to edit these lists to remove personal elements would change the entire context of the ideas.
3. A Lot of My Lists Are Just Glorified to Do or Shopping Lists
They may be important to me, but aren't terribly interesting for anyone else to read.
4. The Site Isn’t Nearly as Active as It Used to Be
Ironically, me not contributing to NotePD is part of the problem.
5. I Feel Like Taking the Time to Come up With Idea Lists Takes Time Away From Other Things I Could Be Doing
This probably isn't really true though. If I got rid of some of the distractions in my life, I could easily bang out an idea list and have plenty of time to do the other things I want to do for the day.
6. The Risk of Coming up With Great Ideas That I Don’t Take Action On
This is more of an ego thing where I'm afraid to take action on something I think is a good idea just because there is a chance I will fail in the execution or bad luck will screw everything up.
7. The Risk of Coming up With Bad Ideas That I Do Take Action On
Some ideas sound great in theory, but completely fall apart in the real world.
8. I Don’t Want to Use AI to Create My Lists
I feel the entire purpose of writing idea lists is to develop the Idea Muscle. Outsourcing this task to a chat bot would be the same as asking someone else to do my pushups for me. The result may look as good or better than the ideas that come from my own head, but I won't develop the creativity or ability to think of solutions to problems. If AI goes rogue and tries to take over the world, you're probably not going to find the solution by asking ChatGPT how to stop itself.
9. I’m Uncertain of the Future of NotePD
Don't get me wrong, I'm as happy and appreciative as any of you that the spam problem plaguing this site for over a year has been fixed. However this was at the cost of over a year's worth of posts from non-spammers being permanently lost. On top of this, the situation was never publicly addressed by site's staff which doesn't inspire confidence that NotePD will continue to be developed.
The fact that NotePD's AI features still haven't been fixed also adds to my concern, but there are enough paid and free options on the web for AI functions that this isn't as much of a concern.
10. It’s Hard Coming up With 10 Unique Ideas Every Day
This is what the constant practice of coming up with a list of 10 ideas every day is supposed to fix.
