Your 6 Best Halloween Costumes
Maybe not the best, but certainly the ones that I remember most. Nothing earth shattering here. Just a fun recollection.
1. Mr. Spock
Store bought. Typical plastic mask with elastic band that always broke. The first costume I remember. It was SO cool.
2. Painted Ghost
i was going to go as a simple ghost and be done with it one year. My mom thought that was too boring, so she got out the tempera paint and painted a scary, bloody face on it. While I was wearing it so everything came out right. Of course, I an hour or so later, I couldn't get it off because the paint had soaked through the sheet and it was stuck to my face. When we eventually got it peeled off the paint had thoroughly soaked into my skin. Several showers with lye soap and turpentine only succeeded in bleaching it a little bit. It was not a good few days at school.
3. Green Demon
The first one I totally picked out and designed myself. It was a hideous store-bought mask with green skin and red hair. Surprisingly it turned out pretty well.
4. Hobo
Boring, right. Well, I happened to find an almost perfect paper mâché copy of the one from Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. Worked perfectly.
5. Max Rockatansky
Used the same head and matched it with my leathers to give me a humorous version of the Road Warrior
6. The Year without a Costume
One year I took my youngest out trick or treating. As is my norm, I tried to stay in the shadows near the street and let the kids have fun. Several adults commented on they thought my "costume" was kind of cool. I would then ask them what they thought I was supposed to be. Answers ranged from "That guy from Goonies" to "Howard, from Big Bang, right?". Guess my wardrobe could do with a couple updates.
