From wherever I am (right now I'm in Italy), I could start in Istanbul, which in some ways feels like it's the capital of the world.

I suppose this is like a top 10 destinations, just strung together into a plausible itinerary. I like slow deep travel, so in practice, this itinerary would happen over 3-12 months. I live on the East coast United States, so I'll start by going East to Europe in March, then around the world from there.

This is modeled on one of several "world cruise" packages offered by the major cruise lines. In this case, the waters traversed, history, and routes taken are as important as the ports of call to me. These itinerary covers 6 of the 7 continents and has intentionally left out areas of the world I have visited before.
