This year I left Boston to move to a new city as part of a slew of life changes. The move-out date for my apartment was June 30th. Starting mid-May, I began selling my furniture and appliances on Marketplace one-by-one. By the time the end of the month rolled around, my apartment was gloriously empty, and my wallet was fat and happy.

As the macroeconomy shifts and economic headwinds promise to bring trouble to the markets, consumer pockets may be more stretched than ever. On the positive side of things, I can't think of a better time to become a marketplace seller than now, when spending on secondhand goods is set to increase. It'll be a seller's market, and you can be a part of it.

What can be found in this post?

Have a knack for selling things, or access to merchandise? Or maybe you just have a bunch of items you need to get rid of? Anyone can sell things on Facebook Marketplace. You don't need to be a star salesperson, a stellar shopper, or even particularly digitally-savvy. Nor do you need to invest money into high start-up costs. It's just a matter of learning how to start. Follow the steps below, in order, and you'll be making profits in no time flat.

....or 66 or 67. The idea is that you retire from something else, now have time and retirement income, and can start on a new pursuit. Standard advice for a lot of career jumps is to start with a side hustle. In the case of retirement, you don't have to worry about maintaining the day job, since you have not quit it but retired! This gives the kind of security a day job gives, while freeing up your time to explore new directions.

A lot of people took early retirement in the pandemic, and a lot more have simply hit retirement age and are considering next steps. Few of us want to just sit in a rocking chair. A lot of us must find another way to earn income, but a lot of us have a sort of "base pay" that can provide a cushion to allow taking chances or exploring options. This list won't give you a huge amount of detail, but it can be a useful starting point to help you figure out what you'd like to explore. Suggestion: pick one and make it the focus for your own list. For instance, "Consulting." Start a list of 10 areas of expertise in which I could consult.

Do not let anything hold you back. Anyone can make a living in the world today.

Every single person should read this list before you go to college. There are many jobs that require a 4 year+ degree. Doctor, Lawyer, Accountant. But there are also an endless number of jobs where you can make a great salary and not go into massive debt.

A lot of these jobs still require hard work. Most of them require that you build up a loyal clientele. But once you build that clientele the sky is the limit.

This is for everyone who writes or wants to write user stories for software development teams.

A good feature implementation by a team requires a good user story. A good user story is a story that helps the team to get all the information they need without ambiguity and without drowning them in too much information.

It helps to have a good template, to understand what you need to provide and why and what is optional and what is not. With this post, I will give you that template and an explanation for each section that I suggest.

I have worked as a developer, as an information analyst, as a product owner, as a scrum master, and now as a developer again on both back-end and front-end software development teams. I have been creating user stories for almost 7 years for various companies before I went back to programming. I have read a lot about software development, but I also took a look into how special forces set up their mission statements. This template is what I believe works best for describing user stories and it's the template and its reasoning I always use.

The post consists of 9 sections (including the title and optional sections, all well explained) for your user stories and two final steps. Together making up 11 valuable steps to allow you to create better user stories.

Day 1 - At The Park

Pigeons are often seen as dirty, and they can be annoying. But there is something very sweet about an old woman feeding them.

An old woman is sitting on a bench in a park. She is feeding pigeons.

The pigeons are walking right up to her.

The pigeons are not afraid of this old woman and they seem to enjoy her company. They feed themselves out of her hand and when she moves they follow. They even land on her shoulders and head but are not afraid.

She was so popular the birds were even pooping on her shoulders.

But, It wasn't always this way.

When she first put a nickel in the machine to buy bird seeds and begin walking toward the pigeons they turned and walked away.

The pigeons "dobbled" their heads back and forth, turned, and walk away from the old woman.

She wasn't dismayed, she turned and walked away from the pigeons.

She just wanted them to feed from the palm of her hand but the birds wouldn't go for it.

She turned around again and showed them the bait (bird seeds) and they begin to follow her.

The birds wanted to eat, they aren't stupid. They're hungry pigeons.

The back and forth continued.

She would turn and walk towards them and they would turn and walk away.

But the gap between them was closing.
Finally, it got so close that she got onto one knee and stretched out her hand face down full of bird seeds.
One courageous pigeon plucked her hand and took some seeds.

And then the remainder of the pigeons did the same thing.

Wow - Look what happened after the first one plucked some seeds. Trust is viral.
Day 2 - At The Park
The pigeons recognized the old lady.

The pigeons would not feed out of anyone else's hands in the park.

Since the old lady went through the "conversion dance."

She wasn't too passive nor was she too aggressive. Just right.

Just like the "Goldilocks Principle"

The Goldilocks Principle states that people are inclined to seek "just the right amount of something."

A young lad on summer vacation would see all the pigeons around the park and wonder why they weren't swooping down so he could feed them like he witnessed them do with the old lady.

So the boy figured that he had to be really quick to get a piece of bread off the ground before the pigeons flew away.

He hurled the bread at the pigeons flew away.

He didn't go through the "conversion dance", as many people aren't willing to go through.

He threw the bread at the pigeons and never had the opportunity to cultivate the "Beak-To-Hand" relationship like the old lady.

Another year has passed. Did you spend most of your time rushing to back to back meetings or driving your kids to soccer practice?

How much of it were you present for?

November is a good month to review and remember the good things before the end of the year.

Taking 5 minutes a day to reflect on the best moments of this year may help.

Both of my siblings are top of their fields. Executives know them. CEO's have had lunch with them. I chose a different path. I might get there some day. I am just taking the long way. I want to know every teeny tiny detail before hand. I am a sibling of impressive people. The great things is.. I am impressive myself and so are these 10 individuals you have never heard of.

I found my famous people from TIME's 100 Most Influential People of the 20th Century List and other random places.
