Tips to avoid distraction while working on a laptop. I.e. how do you stop yourself from browsing google, Facebook, LinkedIn, checking email et all- when you are working, i.e. you can not turn off the internet as you require that for accessing work-related documents

To answer @Hisariap 's challenge, here's what I do to avoid distraction while writing!

    1. Use placeholder text so you don't have to stop writing

    0
When you're in the flow of writing, and need to look something up - write 'tk' and keep writing. You can find the information you need later.
If you stop writing and start looking online, you'll get distracted.
Then when you're editing your work, run a search for 'tk' to find all the bits of information you need to find, and add them in.

For me it has always been hard to avoid distractions while working.

I am a wannabe copywriter, and ofter I've been discovering myself in need of one or two info that I need to include in a piece but I didn't remember.

Subsequently I used to open Linkedin or Gmail to check that mail or chat when I was sure to find it, but then I usually started bingewatching

So here's what I did

    1. Create a Google Drive folder to put in outstanding info

    2. deciding in advance what to include in the copy piece

    2. Have your favorite (non-alcoholic) drink by your side so you don’t have to chase it later.

Ideas to avoid being distracted

    1. Sign out of your e-mail accounts on your laptop. This will make it annoying to have to sign in again each time you have the urge to procrastinate.

    2. Permit yourself to be occasionally sidetracked, but set a timer (search “online timer” on Google) when you do, to remind yourself to snap out of it and get back to work ASAP.

    1. Have a 'work' laptop.

    0
I know not everyone can afford a dedicated work laptop alongside one for home use but, if distraction is a major problem for you, then I do feel a separate laptop will help. You may find that your work will equip you with one of their laptops.
