10 experiences I had from building my own guitar body from scratch
I started with a block of wood.
1. It was very challenging
2. It took me a long time: 2 1/2 years!
It was a low priority.
3. It would have been way cheaper to buy a pre made guitar: like half as much
That wasn‘t really the goal but after working on it for a long time I started to consider this heavily.
4. I really appreciate the quality in a factory guitar more now
5. I liked being able to shape the cutaways exactly for me
6. I bought some complex electronics that I could not install correctly
I gave up and installed a passive pickup instead
7. I got much better at routing
8. Had mixed results with the finish
Parts that I really liked but parts that are flawed
9. I’m not sure if I would do it again
I’m glad that I did it but I spent 100s of hours on it.
