10 Ideas Of Songs That Improve Your Mood
Music can change my mood, make me feel powerful, and help me find inspiration. The following songs are my favorites for helping get my head straight, my faith rekindled, and my heart alive. These songs are unstoppable...and so am I.
1. I Believe - Blessid Union Of Souls
Every dream begins with belief and no song speaks more directly to my heart than this one. The piano, the haunting voice, and the raw emotion of this song always leave me different than I was before I started listening. At my very core, "I believe that love is the answer".
2. Man In The Mirror - Michael Jackson
My favorite quote and the one that has become a mantra for my life is one by Mahatma Gandhi, "Be the change you wish to see in the world". No song makes me want to become an agent for positive change in the world like this song. If it's going to be, it's up to me....and I'm starting with the woman in the mirror.
3. Fight Song - Rachel Platten
"I don't really care if nobody else believes, 'cause I've still got a lotta fight left in me". 'Nuff said!
4. Firework - Katy Perry
Katy is just so much fun. And who doesn't love fireworks!? This song takes all the energy, anticipation, and awe of a physical firework that delights our eyes and captures that essence to delight our ears. I can't help but start singing along, bobbing my head, and just feeling great when I hear this song.
5. Can't Touch This - M.C. Hammer
Tell me you can be sad while listening to this song. You can't. This is also my favorite song for when I'm feeling a little extra pep in my step. Whatever it is, I'm strutting. You can't handle all this badassery....Can't Touch This! The music video is included in this post, for your viewing pleasure.
6. Hey Ya! - Outkast
Outkast is such a fun group and this song is one of their funnest (Ok, excuse me grammar nerds....most fun). I know the lyrics don't sound particularly happy, but to me, that's the point. Breakups, "nothing lasts forever", but we can still dance and sing, enjoying being in this moment. My day is always better once I start shaking it like a Polaroid picture!
7. Livin La Vida Loca - Ricky Martin
I don't know what makes me happier, listening to this song or watching Ricky dance. Either way, upside, inside out, I feel a premonition that my mood is improving just thinking about this song. (You know you're singing it now)
8. Life Is A Highway - Rascal Flatts
I felt like I needed to include a good road trip travel song. Travel makes me so happy and this song makes me think about all the places I've been and the places I want to go. I know there are other versions of this song, but Rascal Flatts is also one of my favorite bands for feeling better and improving my mood so they had to make this list. I'm sorry if I offended you by choosing this version. Don't worry. My husband is also offended. It's a talent.
9. My House - Flo Rida
#8 was my song for traveling, but this one is my song for staying in. This song is my favorite for hanging out at home in the pool, just me and my husband with cocktails and sunshine. Years ago I heard someone say, "instead of planning your next vacation, plan a life you don't need to take a vacation from". This is my song for enjoying the home and the life we have - the one I don't ever need to take a vacation from.
10. Baby Got Back - Sir Mix-A-Lot
This one is last because it is my guilty pleasure. It makes me so happy. It has made me happy for so many years. At one point, my friend knew how much I loved this song so he ripped it 13.5 times back-to-back on a CD and gave it to me (yes, I know how much that story dates me....as if my playlist hasn't already)
