10 Things I've Noticed So Far In Arkansas

I just moved to Arkansas from Utah

    1. A hill over 1000 feet tall is technically a "mountain"

What they have here are not mountains. I've hiked several "Arkansas mountains" in a single day in Utah. It's funny hearing them call the hills mountains.

    2. There is a very limited number of products in Arkansas

For instance, I like energy drinks. In Utah there were so many flavors to pick from. My favorites energy drink flavors were Hardcore Apple and Berry Sangria, here in Arkansas every single store only has the basic "original" flavors. It's annoying.

    3. There is a lottery here

I went to a gas station last night and people were packed in buying Powerball tickets. It's at $1.4 Billion right now. Utah doesn't have a lottery or any gambling. I bought a ticket, it was fun but I didn't win... yet.

    4. Southern Accents

I knew there were people with southern accents here. But I had to actually get here to hear it. I don't know why it surprises me when people speak. I've faked the accent when making jokes with my wife before moving but it's still so surprising every time.

    5. People are friendlier in Arkansas

Like really friendly. I like it.

    6. People are really helpful in Arkansas

I've never had so many people so willing to help. Everyone from my kids schools to people I've just randomly met, they offer to help and really mean it.

    7. Very Few Chain Restaurants

almost all the restaurants here are locally owned.

    8. Dry counties

The county I live in does not sell alcohol except for at restaurants. It's fine to have it, you can go to the neighboring county and buy it. Not sure what the reason is for a dry county

    9. The school system seems way better here

They feed all kids breakfast and lunch. The food is really good quality. They have so many more resources available than my kids had at Utah schools. I think maybe the lottery provides funding for schools here.

    10. The rain is warm

In Utah if it rains on a day mid summer, the rain is still cold because it's falling from 7000 ft above sea level. Walking out to warm rain today felt really good!
