10 Things This Chocolate Cake Means to Me
I sat down to enjoy a chocolate cake and ponder. And this list is what came out :)
The cake was different from the one in the picture, but both are from Jean-Paul Hevin.
1. Craftsmanship
It is amazing how individual ingredients come together to make a masterpiece. A great manifestation of "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts."
2. Love
Although machines could create these cakes, the first cake was made by a chef who loved his craft. I felt I didn't buy a cake; I bought a token of love. :)
I could see the smile of the chef on the cake :) Ok, maybe I exaggerate a bit.
3. Celebration
Celebrating life, celebrating the end of a grueling week. And celebrating the learnings and mistakes and the small wins.
4. Reward
The reward for showing up every day :)
5. Gratitude
Gratitude for all the muscles that work in orchestration to cut a piece of cake and maneuver it to my mouth. Gratitude for all tastes and flavors, the taste receptors, and all the neural circuits that transmit the sensation to my brain. Gratitude for being in the moment.
6. Joy
The joy of self-awareness, awareness of the moment without distraction. The joy of doing something pleasant. The joy of eating dark chocolate.
7. Reset
Everything before the cake is in the past. I am different after eating and pondering over the cake. New neural networks have been created. I pressed a reset button, for it will be a new beginning after the cake is gone.
8. Timeslip
The cake is my wormhole. I ate a chocolate cake on my first birthday, and I ate it on my first date, I think :) Through it, I go back in time ;)
9. Revolt
It is a revolt to break the rule. I have been trying to lose weight; intermittent fasting, watching for calories, and eating healthy can be tiring. For today, I chose pleasure over everything else :)
10. A welcome respite
From the chaos of life. I love chaos. But sometimes, I need a pause :)
