10 Things to Do When You Don't Feel Like Doing Anything
I struggle with depression. Specifically, I wrestle with clinical anhedonia (nothing feels good) and apathy (not wanting to do anything). This was exacerbated last week by Covid. I Googled "things to do when you don't feel like doing anything," and these kept coming up from source after source. They're probably all referencing each other. Whatever. It's good stuff. I just have to find the activation energy to push over the edge for a few of them.

1. Take a walk outside
Fresh air and movement can help boost your energy and clear your mind.
2. Listen to music
Putting on your favorite tunes can lift your mood and inspire you to do something.
3. Read a book
Getting lost in a good story can be a great distraction from feeling unmotivated.
4. Write in a journal
Reflecting on your feelings and thoughts can help you understand why you're feeling uninspired and how to overcome it.
5. Do a quick workout
Even a short workout can release endorphins and get your blood flowing, helping to boost your energy and motivation.
6. Make a to-do list
Sometimes just the act of organizing your tasks and setting goals can help you feel more motivated.
7. Call a friend
Talking to someone you care about can help you feel more connected and less alone in your feelings.
8. Practice mindfulness
Taking a few minutes to focus on your breath and be present in the moment can help you feel more grounded and focused.
9. Watch a funny video
Laughing has been shown to have positive effects on our mood and can be a great way to lighten the mood and boost motivation.
10. Do something for someone else
Helping others can give you a sense of purpose and fulfillment and can also help you to focus on something other than your own feelings.
11. BONUS: Make a list
This helps get the juices flowing. Even though this list was sparked by research rather than just getting what's in my mind out there, it still helped.
