10 ways to get started on an idea
1. Brain dump
2. Crazy 8s
A fast sketching exercise where participants sketch out 8 ideas in the span of 5 minutes. Usually done in groups, but can be done individually just to get moving.
3. Start with an existing work and modify it
4. Start with a template
5. Take a dot for a walk
Renowned painter, Paul Klee, once said "A line is a dot that went for walk." It's also a great way to get started. On a blank sheet of paper, pick a starting point with your pen/pencil, press it down on the paper and take it for a walk. Form will emerge.
