10 ways to improve airports
1. Have calm, slow tempo music playing
Airports are stressful environments and having calm music playing will help reduce stress
2. Have soft lighting
I find lighting can also affect the mood (think about the effect of lighting in theatres) - soft blue or purple light would be nice.
3. Have an estimated wait time at lines
They have started to put in estimated wait times at security, but I think people would also appreciate wait times in the check-in lines
4. Have an incentive for people that get to the airport early
Vouchers or coupons for meals, books, or other retail stores if you get to the airport 2 hours early
5. Have extra capacity
Have extra check-in staff, have extra security - to handle unexpected large volumes of people
6. Introduce a petting zoo
How can you feel stressed if there's a kitten or puppy on your lap
7. Give out beverages after getting through security
Coffee, water, juice - it's a nice way to get people relaxed after security
8. Have power ports at every seat
I don't like standing around the counter huddled around a single power plug
9. Provide people with free earplugs
Helps block out the noise of the engines
