10 Weird things I do.. How you can be weird too
I love being unusual. My best friend says "You go out of your way to be different". Yup. I do. I can't wait to see how I will be weirder this next year. I want to be the most interesting person you've met. To me interesting looks a little weirder than the next person.
1. Take a set amount of photos in a single day
I did this in college. I would tell my friend.. Let's make it our goal to take 100 photos tonight. We ended up going out of our way to take photos. It's hard to take 100 photos in a matter of 4 hours. This was back when it was digital cameras. We ended up having some random photos that we never would have captured if it wasn't for the challenge.
2. Use the material you have
I was 8. My parents were divorced and I was at my mom's office on a random day after school probably. I had a pop can, a highlighter, post its and scissors. What can you do with these things? Well I turned my pop can into a hula dancer. I gave it a grass skirt and a coconut bra made out of paper. I then asked everyone for their pop cans and continued to dress all the pop cans I could find. It was fun.
3. I randomize everything I can when I am in the mood.
We can get so stuck in our own routines. I think I learned this while living in South Korea. I was the foreigner who only wanted to eat American food. I decided to start going to different restaurants of different ethnicities. I went from a mild spice girl to a medium spice girl. I've had food from all over the world.
4. Read old books
I know.. They are outdated.. But they are also wonderful. One of my favorite books is this 99 cent book from back in the 70's called Entertaining at the White House. Did you know that Nixon liked jazz? I a mnot sure if you would find this in a more new to this age book. You'd read how he was a horrible man who cheated his way into the office.. There was naivete to him back during his presidency.
5. Work some place that you are not from
I am sure a lot of us do this. We work in a city that we are not from. I really don't want to work in the city I came from. I purposefully try to work in new areas. I worked only a mile away from where I am working right now. It's a completely different area. I am working in a school on a road off of 9 mile. Last year I worked at.a school between 10 and 11 mile. 2. different worlds. I can't wait to explore the rest of the world.
6. Don't read the obvious
This is more easy to do in a used book store. I find the craziest books in used bookstores that have never been on a top 10 list.
7. Don't watch the obvious
I did my biographical documentary challenge over the past 2 years. I either type into google "Historical famous people alphabetically" or I ask a new person I met for a recommendation. I was on the letter V in October. I asked my now boyfriend for a recommendation on someone with the letter V. He suggested a documentary on Von Braun. I never ever ever would have chosen him to watch a documentary on. It was TOTALLY interesting.
8. Post in Local Facebook Groups
I was in South Korea during my 2nd year. My boyfriend at the time was overseas. My friends were busy but I NEEDED to ADVENTURE. I didn't want to do it alone. I put a post in the Seoul Women Expat Group.. " I want to go on an adventure this weekend. Anyone want to go with me?" I did this twice and met a handful women that I stay in touch with today on Facebook.
9. Help the new people
When I was in Seoul I reached out to every new person that I saw come across my TEFL school's alumni page. If they had questions about Korea I would answer them and tell them to reach out when they got to Korea and I'd show them around. I met more people. I met a woman who wrote for food magazines who wanted to teach abroad. We ended up getting a bit tipsy on Soju heading to the DDP and starting a congaline to a random dj set up outside of the DDP Plaza. It was the most wild experience.
10. Wear Costumes
I wear costumes whenever I get the chance. I haven't worn my typical leggings and t shirt for about 2 weeks. I have worn some sort of Christmas costume. Today I am wearing a green long sleeve dress with a big red belt that has a bow in the front. My hair is back in tiny ponytails and I am rocking Christmas tree earrings. Yesterday I was Miss. Claus.. Santa's younger and cuter sister. Tomorrow I am wearing my unicorn Christmas dress from Walmart. I have had the strangest conversations with people while in costume.
