10 Words of Wisdom Drawn from Good Timber

"Good timber does not grow with ease,

The stronger wind, the stronger trees,

The further sky, the greater length,

The more the storm, the more the strength.

By sun and cold, by rain and snow,

In trees and men good timbers grow.

Where thickest lies the forest growth

We find the patriarchs of both.

And they hold counsel with the stars

Whose broken branches show the scars

Of many winds and much of strife.

This is the common law of life."

By Douglas Malloch

Feeling poetic tonight! I decided to squeeze wisdom from a poem.

    1. The Obstacle is the way

"Good timber does not grow with ease,

The stronger wind, the stronger trees"

    2. Think Big. Your outlook on life determines how far you go

"The further sky, the greater length"

    3. The size of your life will be determined by the size of the problems you solve

"The more the storm, the more the strength."

"You are paid in direct proportion to the difficulty of the problems you solve." ―Elon Musk

    4. Choose your forest. Surround yourself with people you aspire to be

"Where thickest lies the forest growth

We find the patriarchs of both.

And they hold counsel with the stars

Whose broken branches show the scars."

    5. But forget not, good timber needs pruning.

Prune the weeds from your life. Remove the unimportant, the toxic, the unhealthy, the time-waster, the addiction, and the lesser goals, for the important few.

    6. Failure is success in progress. You can't reach the stars if you have no scares

"And they hold counsel with the stars

Whose broken branches show the scars"

    7. "Do not pray for easy lives, pray to be stronger men."

"By sun and cold, by rain and snow,

In trees and men good timbers grow."

"Do not pray for easy lives, pray to be stronger men." ― John F. Kennedy

    8. Always stand tall, no matter what life throws at you

Always stand tall, no matter what life throws at you.

    9. Remember, even the mightiest of trees began as a tiny seed

Look back and celebrate the scars, but never take your sights off the stars.

And as you reach the sky, remember to give back the deed, for you once were a tiny seed.

    10. For what makes the timber is not the bark but the many rings that time stacked

Great things take time. Enjoy the journey. But eyes on the stars :)
