5 Reasons to spend healthy doses of non-work time with co-workers

I'm at a week-long conference with my colleagues, and our schedule is chock-full of activities. In addition to day-long trainings, we have after-work social activities planned and we're being put up at the same hotel.

Although I can be extroverted, I also enjoy my down time and have considered skipping some of the non-work activities to catch up on rest. However, I think there are plenty of good reasons why I should try harder to be present and catch up with my colleagues. Here are some.

    1. To get to know the people I'm working with better and enjoy my time with them more

    2. To understand challenges our team/the organization is facing that I may not experience in my daily tasks

    3. To get another person's perspective of our jobs and to learn from them

    4. To develop stronger personal relationships with my colleagues, which I can use in the future for networking

    5. To develop a relationship of trust and discuss important topics like workplace compensation
