7 Reasons to move to Pennsylvania from New York
I'm strongly considering moving from NY to PA once I retire from my current job. This helps me think about it, and maybe it will help you as well.

1. No state income tax
Nuff said.
2. Property taxes are lower than in most places
3. Great golf
more courses per capita than any place in the country. (I've never been interested in golf unless it had little castles and windmills. But maybe if I had more time.)
4. The best cheesesteaks, hoagies, pizza, and Italian food
Growing up in PA, I actually know what a hoagie is. And scrapple. And don't forget pretzels.
5. The best sports teams
Flyers, Phillies, 76ers (and now the Eagles) and the Pirates Plus they are all winning! (No, NO, and HELL, NO)
6. Affordable housing
In some areas you can buy a mansion for less than you would pay for a small apartment in NYC. But too many areas are becoming HOAs or even true gated communities. As long as I can avoid that, property really is cheaper than where I'm at.
7. Close to DC so you can watch your kids and grandkids have sex in the Lincoln Memorial at night. Or whatever it is kids do these days there. And also close to NYC so you can still visit there often for your fix of culture and restaurants.
I don't really think of PA being close to DC, unless you already are living in the Philly burbs. Maybe take the train in? My son is still in NYC and has no plans to leave the city, so this actually is somewhat of an advantage. Unless I move to Pittsburgh.
