Advice on asking a girl out on a date.

While I have experience in this, some of this might be bad advice! But hopefully it will give you ideas or encouragement. And I've rarely pronounced the word "date"; maybe because I'm not from North America? I just ask a girl out for a drink, sometimes it's obvious that it will be a date, and sometimes I have to figure it out during the date/non-date.

I remember traveling to Finland and hanging out with a girl I met online. A guy asked me if it was romantic, and I said I wasn't sure, that it wasn't clear at all. He said that's how it happens in Finland, it always starts ambiguous. Funny. I'm from Belgium, but I couldn't really say how it works there (I haven't dated a lot of Belgian women!).

    1. "Would you like to grab a drink and mutually wonder whether it's a date the whole time?"

    2. "I like you. Wanna hang out sometime soon?"

Sometimes that's enough. Asking it casually and directly, while specifying how you feel to make your intentions clear.

    3. Don't act like it's a high-risk situation

Or do, maybe that's cute, who knows. But maybe it's good to remind yourself that it's not a big deal.

    4. But also don't act like you don't care

I've noticed some people (not necessarily in the context of dating) try too hard to show that they don't care (or maybe they truly don't, I don't know), and they can come across as jerks. You don't strike me as that kind of guy though! I just mean that it's important to show your enthusiasm - at least it is to me.

    5. Be yourself

Yes, the old "be yourself" thing. I think it's an important one. At the end of the day, you have to be authentic (which doesn't mean allowing yourself to be an asshole).

    6. Remember that it's fucking awesome that you're doing this

You're asking a girl out on a date!! That's amazing. The excitement! It's a great initiative, something that a lot of guys don't do out of fear. Imagine the amazing things people miss out on.

    7. She probably likes you too

    8. She might be wondering the same things

"Should I ask him out? Is he gonna ask me out? I have no idea how to do this."

    9. Or she's not, but she'll be pleasantly surprised

    10. Worst case scenario...

She says no (or reluctantly says yes), and it will just make you one step closer to finding the right person.

OK, worst case scenario she says yes, kidnaps you and steals your identity.
