Armenia: a model of grit
In my recent visit to Armenia, I saw a model of grit. What struck me most was how everyone in Yerevan remembers, honors, and learns from the past while at the same time also moving forward to create their future. I walked alongside thousands of people in Yerevan (over a million throughout the day), in the rain, to remember the more than one million Armenians who perished in the Armenian genocide over a hundred years ago. Everyone in the city does this ritual at some point during the day each anniversary (bringing flowers to the memorial), but also continues life and works hard to create a better future. Also pictured are some of the ways they’re doing that, like in the startup incubator at the Foundation for Armenian Science and Technology (FAST) and at the beautiful United World College school in Dilijan.
