Creativity Tracking
I use a habit tracker sheet to track my mood 3x a day (morning, mid-day, evening). I've said for a while now that creativity (as measured by my ability to make idea lists) seems to ebb and flow somewhat cyclically. It got me thinking about tracking how creative I feel daily.
1. Scale
I initially wanted a scale of 1-5 with 5 being the most creative, but since I track mood on a scale of 1-10, I used 1-10.
2. Mood
Tracking against average mood might be helpful
3. Sleep
I don't track my sleep, but it might correlate to creativity
4. Exercise
Are we more creative on days we exercise
5. Outdoor time/Sunshine/Vitamin D
This is distinct from exercise...
6. Diet
What have you been eating?
7. Weight
Did you lose/gain weight?
8. Meditation
Another habit some people track.
9. Journaling
10. Decluttering
11. Final Thoughts
Because my creativity has peaks and valleys, I try to ride out the latter by batching and scheduling idea lists on days when creativity feels higher. That may betray the principle of daily practice - but I'm still exercising my idea muscle an equivalent amount. I think it's akin to doing a lighter workout (e.g. walking rather than running) on days when you feel physically run down.
