Five Thoughts About Deities
With deities, I do not mean a creator god, but beings with powers that far exceed our own.

1. Deities would need to obey the laws of physics
The laws of physics are incredibly precise.
As far as we can tell, they do not admit of exception.
No apple will suddenly fall upward toward the sky.
So if there are deities, they would need to obey physics.
2. Deities would have evolved on other worlds
Where else could they come from? Certainly not from Earth!
There must be a clear reason for them to exist.
Just like we started out as primordial soup.
3. Deities would likely have been with us for some time
I mean, it would be pretty strange if they just arrived last year, wouldn't it?
Especially considering the vastness of space.
They must have witnessed a lot of unrecorded human history.
And perhaps know more about us than we know about ourselves.
4. We would know nothing about their motives
I mean, how could we?
We are already struggling with understanding each other!
Trying to understand a deity would be like an ant trying to understand nuclear physics.
Just not possible.
5. It would be pretty cool to have deities around!
Well, this one is purely subjective.
I kind of like the idea of not being all alone here?
Does that mean I believe in deities? Of course not.
At least, not yet.
