Fundamentals of Cross-Country Skiing
1. Waxless Skis Are Easier to Start with but Will Go Slower
There's less glide
2. If you're waxing your skis, know what temperature it'll be that day
3. Waxing Part 2:
Cork the wax (rub it smooth with a cork).
4. Ski Length
Your skis should be about as high as you can reach while keeping the palm of your hand parallel to the ground.
5. Ski Length Part 2:
Skating skis are shorter in the back
6. Stride Technique
Keep all your weight on the ski that is about to kick back to propel you forward
7. Stride Technique Part 2:
Transfer the weight to the other ski while kicking it forward like you were going to toe-kick a soccer ball.
8. Stride Technique Part 3:
The opposite side arm does the poling; i.e when your left ski is the forward ski, your right arm is planting the pole.
9. Ski Trail Etiquette
When someone calls "Track", move to the right to let them pass.
10. Ski Trail Etiquette Part 2:
Don't litter or otherwise ruin the condition of the trails and the tracks that have been set.
