Help, I'm a melancholic pessimist.

I've just completed a personality inventory that classified me as a melancholic pessimist. What are some of the things I can do to break the mold?

Help, I'm a melancholic pessimist.

    1. Learn to laugh more

Watch standup routines and comedy movies

    2. Meet someone's need

There are always people worse off than me. Find someone and do something for them for free. Research indicates that giving to others releases endorphins.

    3. Reframe a negative feeling

Stop and list the possible positives that could come out of the situation.

    4. Complement someone every day

Similar to #2 but an easier to achieve for a daily dose of endorphins.

    5. Write a list of the things you have achieved

Sometimes it is easy to forget the great things that you have achieved.

    6. Stop being a perfectionist

80% of something is better than 100% of nothing. So instead of trying to achieve the absolute epitome of perfection, accept what to you is 80% and move on to the next thing.

    7. Reframe "I'm grateful for ..." to "I'm happy because ..."

"Happy" is a word our brains recognize as a mood booster.

    8. Reward yourself

    Celebrate wins with a reward.

    9. Plan for and spend some time and/or money on an experience

Have something to look forward to on a regular basis.

    10. Meditate on how awesome it is to be you

What an experience to be alive in this amazing universe. You are made by the stars. The atoms of which you are made have been around for billions of years and chose to be a part of you.
