Hidden Business Moats
Some businesses clearly have a moat or a monopoly in some aspect of their business that makes people choose them over their competition.

1. ASML
This is a business that builds the machinery which creates semiconductor chips that go into all kinds of different products. These machines are complex and only a few are created each year. The company provides extreme ultraviolet lithography systems; and deep ultraviolet lithography systems comprising immersion and dry lithography solutions to manufacture various range of semiconductor nodes and technologies.
If you need these machines in your business process then you will need to use this company.
2. Stella Jones
This business is out of Canada. They provide timber for railroad ties and utility polls. They are the biggest player in this space and their scale will allow them to reduce products if necessary in order to keep their market share.
3. RCI Hospitality Holdings
This is not a very large business, but they do have a great moat. The operate adult nightclubs along with adult themed restaurants.
Adult night clubs are heavily regulated in most cities and many of them are locked into their current location and owner operation. RCI branched out into adult themed restaurants in order to make it easier for the business to expand.
4. Live Nation
They own venues, ticketing, tour operations and artist management. Their moat comes from having all different aspects of live events under one roof.
5. Waste Management
Landfills are expensive to create and then heavily regulated.
There will always be a need for a city trash service.
6. Disney
Disney took over 21st Century Fox and gained even more intellectual property for them to mine for content, which they will need for their streaming platform. Content is king and Disney clearly has some of the most valuable IP in the world.
7. POOL
They build and sell pool equipment which is dominated by a handful number of businesses.
8. Boeing
There is nothing hidden about this moat. They are only 1 os 2 airplane manufacturers in the world.
9. Scott’s Miracle-Gro Company
Once again, a heavily regulated company. There are a lot of chemicals that go into creating fertilizer that are regulated by the EPA.
This company has approved products that are well known the government and the consumer. The base products will allow them to expand their product brand offerings.
10. Public Storage
Land and storage. They own some of the most desirable property in the world. They have a known brand. Operations on these facilities is minimal. It takes a lot of planning and capital to build large storage units in metropolitan areas.
11. GoDaddy
They dominate the domain name business on the internet this has allowed them to expand into other areas of software that will make it a large business in the future.
