Home Speaker Ideas
We don't have an Alexa or Google Home speaker - I don't love the idea of it spying on us. But if we did have one, and it was going to be listening continously, here are some things it could do to make itself useful.
1. Swear Jar
Track who curses and keep a record. At the end of a week, or month, let us know who owes what.
2. Second Language Encouragement
If your family speaks another language like ours does, but struggles to find ways to practice, instead defaulting to English, the speaker could track who speaks in the other language and how much/often. Turn it into a game - the one who practices the most gets a prize at the end of the week/month.
3. Auto-Karaoke
If someone starts singing, join in with a musical accompaniment.
4. Noise Cancellation
Fight the hum of the fridge, dishwasher and laundry.
5. Bird Call Identification
If the speaker was near an open window, it could identify bird calls - perhaps even keeping a log of which birds were active when.
6. Check for the sound of washing hands after a toilet flush
Kids.
7. Alert for the sound of breaking glass
For security or just to let everyone know it's not safe to go into the kitche barefoot
8. Find lost items
I'm not sure how it could know where someone left their slippers, glasses or phone, but I know data anlaytics can be a scary thing, so why not?
9. Replay conversations to settle arguments
10. Pet Sounds
Talk to the animals to keep them company when the humans are away.
