How Snow Days Change My Routine

We got a mild snow storm overnight - about five inches. How does this change the "go to work" routine?

    1. Clean the snow off of the car

Run the car to de-ice the windows if needed. Get the snow off of all of the car to avoid flying snow off the back when on the road.

    2. Don't have to wake the teenager - no school

    He'll sleep until noon.

    3. Decide - boots or no boots

Boots are a pain to drive in (quite large, but comfy). No boots means wet shoes and sock(s).

    4. Slow down on the road

Just a bit, and a bit more distance from the car in front.

    5. Shovel off the front steps

Because the kid is off and he'll be shoveling the rest.

    6. Dress down

Jeans and flannel instead of chinos and dress shirt.

    7. Assume other drivers will be even worse than usual

There was an SUV flipped on the way out of the valley today (probably no injuries - the first aid squad rigs were heading back to base from the site). The road was cleared and salted, so somebody did something stupid to cause the accident.

    8. Wait longer for the dog to do her business before leaving

Usually, she's pretty quick about it... the snow throws her off and she's antsy about walking up the steps unless they're cleared.

    9. Work from home

Capable of doing so, but learned to drive in the winter of several East Coast blizzards. Snow doesn't bother me. So, unless our driveway is plowed in by the plow folks, I'll choose to go in. Only WFH if the boss says so, or the governor says so.

    10. Sounding board for wife

She runs a day care... should they open or close? I voted open, so she closed.
