How to Increase Writing Vocabulary

look for adverbs in writing..they are a sign of weak verbs. create a list of stronger verb options

Find a long sentence. Condense it down to as few as words as possible

Read fiction especially

headlines force creativity. come up with 10-50 headlines for each practice section

6. Download a vocabulary game app

replace all your candy crush and stupid games with word based games. even standardized test vocab trainers will help

7. Play vocab games while driving

see a sign. pick a word, and come up with as many synonyms as possible

8. Use a thesaurus

don't be afraid to use tools as a writer. they aren't a crutch. the more you use, the more embedded the new vocab will become

9. Write poetry

not free verse. use a strict traditional form to force you to find words that express your idea inside a meter

10. Play dress-up

be an actor and take on the role of a stereotype or historical character. speak and/or write like they would. Pick someone vastly different than yourself
