Podcast has been the new media for a while now, but not prominent enough. However, the lockdown had accelerated the whole industry. According to Hot Pod (owned by The Verge), Podcasting will be a $4 Billion dollar industry by 2024!

So, if you think you're one of the mice, want some of the little $4 Billion dollar pie, and you know you have at least a year of 'things' to say, a business that can go well with podcasting, or, you're just lonely, here are things you need to start a podcast with $"0" Dollar!

    1. Computer/ Recording device = $0

Assuming you already have a computer for either work or leisure, that's a $0 dollar investment! It doesn't have to be a glorified, maxed-out Mac and can solve Einstein's Theory. It can even be the simple PC that your parents or yourself use to play Candy Crash. You just need a computer!

    2. Earbud/ headphone = $0

Also, assuming you have an earbud that comes with your phone, use those! It doesn't have to be a fancy one that gives xx Hz to xx kHz! If you don't have any of those, the next time you fly on the plane, ask for a free earbud! :)

You just needed to wear them for :

    1. Reduce Crosstalk,
    2. So you can hear your guest!

    3. Microphone = $69.99

Yes, the Microphone is the first one that you might need to spend money on! I would say, it's a great investment! Even though you're not using it for a podcast, imagine going onto a company Zoom meeting sounding great. Your boss will be impressed, and a promotion is imminent!

    4. Editing/ Recording Software = $0

There are many free editing software out there in the world!

When I first started out in the Audio Industry, everything cost hundreds and thousands of dollars! I don't think it's fair, however, I do get that, those free software help indie content creators!

If you own a Mac, GarageBand is free and comes with your computer.

If you own a Windows machine, Audacity is your best friend!

    5. Cover Art = $0

Canva.com! Canva is a great site! I created countless podcast art, streaming art, and some other art that I needed for The James Altucher Show! I started using them for free for a while before I signed up with them! And yes, if you're DIY-ing everything, you could use the Free Version of Canva for your cover Art!

However, make sure your cover art's dimensions are Max: 3000 x 3000 pixels, or Min: 1400 x 1400 pixels!

    6. Podcast hosting service =$0

Podcast hosting services are different than a regular website. What podcast hosting does is that it takes your ready-to-delivered podcast episode, stores it on their server, and distributes it to different platforms like Apple Podcast, Spotify, Overcast, Pocketcast, Sticher, and more...

If you're starting out, and not sure if you want to do it forever, or you just want to try it out and see how far it will take you, then you could consider going for a free hosting website!

Of course, anything free comes with limitations and restrictions, such as:

    1. These free services might limit the amount or the file size of the content that you could upload a month.
    2. Adding third-party ads without your consent and without compensating you for the ad space. For example, if your podcast is about alcohol recovery, they might actually advertise ads about alcohol without you knowing!
    3. You might not own your content at the end of the day. Make sure you read the fine print before signing up with some of the free hosting services!

Anyway, here is a list of free podcast hosting services if you're looking for them:

    • Buzzsprout
    • Podbean
    • Spreaker
    • Anchor
    • Acast
    • Soundcloud

    7. What about intro and outro music? $0?

What about them you ask? If you own a Mac, you're in luck! Just like how GarageBand is a free tool for you to edit or record your podcast? GarageBand also comes with music loops that you could combine, and create your Podcast Theme Music!
