Improve the infrastructure at the airport.

As a feeder and an alternative to the more crowded metro airport, our hypothetical airport needs more "last mile" transportation options.

    1. The easiest route into the larger metro area from the airport is by commuter rail

A good rail station is only a few miles away but it is the other side of the river. So even ground shuttle to the train is somewhat problematic.

    2. A rail line that doesn’t have passenger service is even closer.

Being on the correct side of the river, it would be logically simpler to add passenger service along an existing freight line. Logically simpler but logistically much more complicated.

    3. Fixed wing commuter flights are what passengers are trying to avoid in the first place.

But rotary wing shuttles to several different heliports in the metro area might work for affluent passengers.

    4. Build our own rail extension.

Tough to route even a light rail connector through roughly 12 miles of developed communities to reach a different established passenger rail line. But if we did, the rest of the route takes care of itself.

    5. High speed ferry.

Nothing like this currently exists in the area. It would likely be somewhat more expensive than rail, but you could offer several ports of call to attract more business and take roughly the same time as rail. The novelty and fun would also be a draw. Would be more susceptible to weather delays and stoppages.

    6. Interstate highway access is quite easy from the airport

But has all the downsides of driving yourself or bus travel.

    7. Could autonomous town cars be the answer?

The comfort and ease of limo or town car service but cheaper.

    8. Could they be better than a ride share service, like Lyft?
