Is This the Year I Retire?

Am I ready for whatever is next? Are you? Maybe my thought process can answer some questions for you as well.

Is This the Year I Retire?
Preview

    1. I haven't reached mandatory retirement age at my current employer yet.

    But it's one year closer.

    2. I don't have a reliable side hustle or other outside employment at the moment.

I am working on some freelance stuff, and I believe that finding another job wouldn't be that difficult. The hard part would be finding something I'm willing to do for the pay they're willing to provide.

    3. But I am working on it.

Albeit not as much or as steadily as I should.

    4. My spouse lost her primary source of income.

It was not a large percentage of our household income, but it will require some budget adjustments.

    5. The numbers still are not totally clear to me.

I've done several webinars and in person "retirement planning" group sessions at work and I'm STILL not sure what my total compensation package will look like. At some point, I'm going to have to do a one-on-one planning meeting with a financial professional.

    6. I like, but don't love my current job.

    Probably like most others.

    7. I'm probably overpaid for what I actually do.

But substantially underpaid for the potential liabilities that come with the job.

    8. There are definitely things I want to do that I've either set aside or delayed.

    But you can't stop time.

    9. At least right now, I couldn't fully replace my income.

Retirement compensation + new income opportunities < current salary.

    10. Make hay while the sun still shines.
