Learning to Love Midlife

Wouldn’t it be useful to attend a school for midlife? A place where we can gain wisdom and strategies for navigating our 40s, 50s, 60s, and beyond?

It exists: Modern Elder Academy (MEA). I attended it last year, experiencing a fun and enriching week that embodied the essence of life itself. I came away from it with an expanded toolkit to navigate adulthood and with a wonderful community to journey with.

MEA founder Chip Conley has now authored a wonderful book: 'Learning to Love Midlife: 12 Reasons Why Life Gets Better with Age', which encapsulates much of the core wisdom taught at the school. The book should be a Living 101 core curriculum staple. Like all of Chip’s books, it is delightful to read, full of poetic wordplay that conveys deep and memorable wisdom.

If you’re looking for a great beginning-of-year read, or a wonderful gift, grab your copy wherever books are sold.

What is a lesson you’ve learned in midlife that would have been helpful to learn sooner? One that stands out to me, and which we practiced at MEA, is the value of appreciative inquiry.
