My Favourite Local Businesses

I'm a transplant to British Columbia, and disorientation and culture shock can be a bit of a bummer. But the best thing about a new community is exploring and learning about the local scene while racking up a few favourite haunts. Here are my favourite 'local businesses in Abbotsford, BC #abbotsford #beer #coffee #bookstore #bikes #foodie #fitkids

1. SippChai

An amazing coffee house with amazing donuts, plus beer on tap, and Indian cuisine. I have yet to check them out in the evenings when they have open mic nights, but still.

2. The Book Man

Both Abbotsford and Chilliwack have a branch. A local bookstore with cats! They also buy (for store credit) and sell used books.

3. Life Cycles

I haven't done a lot of shopping here but the staff did give us some great advice that really saved our bacon. Apparently, it's part of a larger organization with a few shops in BC and a couple in Quebec, but it's not part of a big chain, so I'll still count it.

4. Sun Hang Do

Sun Hang Do is a Korean-based martial art that has Dojang locations across the province. It's well-geared for kids and a lot of fun. So much so I started joining the Lightning Kid in his lessons!

5. Town Hall

This pub/restaurant is part of the Joseph Richard Group, so I"m cheating a bit on the 'local business' label again, but at least it's not part of a big chain. The food and service are excellent, and though we often go as a family, I actually applaud that they restrict minors from entry after 8PM.
