My ideas for increasing reading in high school students

1. Allow audio books to count

2. Teach everyone how to load a library app on their phone

My local library from the county has had digital books for free for many years. It is super convenient to have it on your cell phone if you were interested, you can develop a habit of reading while waiting instead of doom scrolling TikTok

3. Make sure everyone has a library card

4. Post reading progress on a chart on the wall for all students

Everyone can see who is the leader of it provides a little bit of pure pressure. Some kids are unreachable matter what but this helps you motivate the top and the middle and identify the bottom.

5. Allow any reading material to count

Instruction manuals, magazines

6. Have a book discussion group

7. Take turns reading aloud

8. Have students write their own books/short stories

9. Read a book that have been made into a movie

Harry Potter and Star Wars are obvious choices.

10. Joke books

11. Guinness World Records books

Maybe this is too old school but I used to devour these books
