Ideas Post

Notes worth sharing

For the last few years I've took multiple notes, daily.

I want to look through a few of them and share my favourites.

Expect a wide viriaty of topics here.

    1. Do something (sketch idea)

    0
    Bad thing happens

X - this is bad. Something should be done.

Everyone - he's right. This is bad sometimes should be done.

    ....

Everyone - why is nothing being done. Maybe if we all stand about shouting someone will hear us and do something.

Maybe if we smash some things something will be done

Government - ok what do you want us to do?

    Something!

    OK let's do this

Not, that. That's racist. Can you believe how bad the government is.

    2. Don't count sheep

    0
Count your blessings and you'll go to sleep a lot happier

    3. Advice Questions

    0
Questions to ask to make people feel like they matter.

I can't seem to get past the first date? What do you suggest I do to guarantee a second date?

I can't seem to remember anything after studying. What do you suggest that will help me remember more?

Drawing takes a long time. What common mistakes do novice artists make?

I want to write my own book. What do you suggest I do to still garentee a fun and good looking book?

    4. Feelings

    0
People hold onto feelings for a lot longer than the knowledge you give them (even if it's a lie).

    5. Plan faster

    0
Really know the topics so you're able to teach just by seeing what needs done

    6. Mystery (Attention)

    0
Hold people's attention in the form of a mystery.

    Pose the mystery
    Deepen the mystery
Home in on the proper explanation by considering (and offering evidence against) alternative explanations
Provide a clue for the proper explanation
    Resolve the mystery
Draw the implication for the phenomenon under study

Consider the most famous painting of all time, the mona Lisa has raised unanswered questions from the start. It's she smiling? If so why? How did the artist paint such an expression?
Unresolved mysteries account for a significant portion of the attention.

    7. The Barnum effect,

    0
The Barnum effect, also called the Forer effect, or less commonly the Barnum-Forer effect, is a common psychological phenomenon whereby individuals give high accuracy ratings to descriptions of their personality that supposedly are tailored specifically to them, that are in fact vague and general enough to apply to a wide range of people. This effect can provide a partial explanation for the widespread acceptance of some paranormal beliefs and practices, such as astrology, fortune telling, aura reading, and some types of personality tests.

    8. Availability Heuristic

    0
After seeing news stories about child abductions, people may judge that the likelihood of this event is greater. Media coverage can help fuel a person's example bias with widespread and extensive coverage of unusual events, such as homicide or airline accidents, and less coverage of more routine, less sensational events, such as common diseases or car accidents. For example, when asked to rate the probability of a variety of causes of death, people tend to rate "newsworthy" events as more likely[citation needed] because they can more readily recall an example from memory[citation needed]. Moreover, unusual and vivid events like homicides, shark attacks, or lightning are more often reported in mass media than common and un-sensational causes of death like common diseases.

    9. Zeigarnik effect

    0
People will remember much more of an unfinished task than they will of a finished task. Once done our brain can reset and forget but if it's not finished we have a tough time letting go of what still seems like it could be...

    10. All you have to do is...

    0
Start tasks with this (all you have to do is...) and people will think it's easy and be more likely to do it.

Use 'because' to provide a reason (even a 'bad' reason will work).
