Osechi: The First Meal of 2023 in Japan

1. Kuromame

2. Kazunoko

5. Datemaki
A rolled omelet made with a mixture of fish and sweet bean paste. It is a symbol of success and good fortune.
6. Kombu
A dish of fish wrapped in kelp. The auspicious characters ``Yorokobu'' and ``Children'' are applied, and the wish for perpetual youth, longevity, and prosperity of descendants.
7. Yellowtail (buri)
A fish that is often served in teriyaki in New Year dishes. Eating it at the beginning of the year is good for those wishing to succeed.
