Philosophy from Guild Wars 2 that I have added to my list of principles
It seems odd that Guild Wars 2, a video game, would have a philosophy embedded in its story, but Guild Wars 2 is an unsual game. It has an open world format that encourages people to help each other in the playstyle.
The world lore has a character that did not agree with the group that he came from. Ventari had a very different view of the world.
He wanted to live in peace with others that were different from himself. Ventari was a Centaur who did not hate humans or any other of the other races in Tyria. He had a set of principles that he lived by. Ultimately, the Sylvari (a plant race in the world) adopted them.
I like the principles because they align with the principle of Love. And Love is who I think God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit or however God has revealed themselves to you) are. They do not force anybody to believe in them. And they love us all.
1. Live Well and Fully and Waste Nothing
2. Do Not Fear Difficulty, Hard Ground makes stronger roots
3. The only lasting peace is the peace within your own soul. Forging the path to serenity is from the mind to the soul is more difficult than any battle fought with steel.
4. All Things have a right to grow. The blossom is brother to the weed
If someone is different in belief or behavior they have as just as much right to flourish and thrive as you do. There is no need to treat others harshly or be abusive to others just because you don't like the way they live. Even the Jesus said to let the weeds grow with the wheat until the end.
5. Never leave a wrong to ripen into evil or sorrow
Many of the problems in the world are a result of people committing wrongs against others. Unfortunately, we let the wrongs continue until they ripen into evil or sorrow. This goes from the smallest wrongs to systemic wrongs that grieve people or result in the death of others. I don't believe in karma, but I do believe that everything has a cause. Ventari taught that we should correct wrongs where possible.
6. Act with wisdom, but act
I have a tendency to procrastinate. This principle has spurred me to take action when I am waffling over what to do.
7. From the smallest blade of grass to the largest mountain, wherever life goes, so too should you.
I like the outward, expanding nature of his belief system. We shouldn't be limited in our goals or our travels.
