Random Dates in History

I was doing some research for this Tarot Journal I want to create and I was at Random.org. Did you know there is a random day in history generator. There is.

    1. The 2nd US National Black Convention - 6/6/1831

Via Wikipedia. The conventions provided "an organizational structure through which black men could maintain a distinct black leadership and pursue black abolitionist goals." The first few decades they were held in Philadelphia. Relationships forged at these meetings led to relationships that created the NAACP. Totally interesting.

    2. Henrik Ibsen Drama 'A Doll's House' Premieres in Copenhagen 12/21/1879

The original date I got was 12/14/1879. Nothing happened on this date. So I went a week later. I am excited about this one because I am going to be in Copenhagen next week. It was a totally feminist play for the day and completely controversial. It's about the awakening of a middle class wife and mother. She feels like she has been treated like a doll in a doll house. I need to see this now.

    3. Giuseppe Prezzolini, Italian writer was Born 1/27/1882

In 1908 he founded La Voce. La Voce was one of the publications which started the cultural basis for Fascism. The magazine focused on philosophical, ethical and political affairs in Italy. Benito Mussolini published articles before World War 1 when he was a socialist.

    4. Japan's First Taxi Service begins in Ginza, Tokyo 8/5/1912

I originally got 8/6/1912 but nothing. The taxi service used six Ford Model T's. Interesting since Model T's were first produced in 1908. It only took 4 years. I gotta know who owned this company "Taxi Jidosha Kabushikigaisha" I have no idea.

    5. Roswell Mysterious Flying Saucer 7/8/1947

The U.S. Army released a statement saying that they had recovered a flying disc. The Army quickly retracted the statement and said it was a conventional weather balloon. Who was the guy that originally made the statement? There should be a movie about that guy. A movie about what his week was like. His name was Walter Haut. He and some friends created the International UFO Museum in 1991.

    6. Persian troops occupy oil refinery at Abadan, Iran 9/27/1951

The Anglo-Iranian Oil Company was a great sense of pride for the UK. It was discovered by the British and developed by British Capital. The Iranian Prime Minister wanted nothing to do with the British Commercial Presence in Iran. The British imposed sanctions on Iran 7 days earlier. They removed workers from the Abadan Refinery. The Iranians felt that they could easily get workers from other westernized countries. They couldn't. It showed which side western countries took in the nationalization dispute.

    7. AL approves St Louis Browns move to become Baltimore Orioles 9/16/1953

The Browns were so broke that at their last home game they didn't have enough balls to go into overtime. They had to use scuffed up balls.

    8. Saab Automobile Files for Bankruptcy 12/19/2011

In 2010 GM and Spyker made an agreement for GM to sell Saab to Spyker. Saab was going to set up a new headquarters in Royal Oak. Whaaa?? I just left a job in Royal Oak! Royal Oak would look very different if Saab had a headquarters there. Spyker kept trying to do deals with China.. bad idea.. In June of 2011 Spyker couldn't pay any of their employees. Eek. A Chinese company wanted to buy 54%. Gm was still providing parts for the Saab cars and didn't want to provide if they sold to the Chinese company. It was not in their best interest. hmmm.. Spyker is a Swedish company. Coincidence.. All of these connections to me.

    9. Betty Thomas was Born 7/27/1947

She did some acting but she lied to a Variety reporter about possibly directing an episode of Hooperman. She was then actually given a real opportunity to direct an episode. She directed the premiere episodes of Doogie Howser M.D. She directed episodes of Arresting Behavior and Dream on. She directed a bunch of stuff.

    10. Etta James Died from Leukaemia 1/20/2012

Huh.. Didn't know Etta was addicted to Heroin. Her mother had her when she was 14 years old. She was abused by men that were taking care of her when she was young. Etta James had her first hit single when she was 15 and was going steady with B.B. King at 16. She said his song "sweet sixteen" was about her. James performed with Elvis when he was young and was impressed by him. She made guest appearances at Grateful Dead concerts in the 80s. Crazay! She was one of the most overlooked R and B singers up until the 90s when she started getting awards. She was friends with Malcolm X and was a member of the nation of islam for about 10 years. She was only married to Artis Mills from the 60s to her death. Interesting. Her and Artis were both caught with Heroin and he took the blame.. he spent 10 years in prison for it. k I see..
