Simple, Inexpensive Ideas to Make a City or Town More Enjoyable To Live In
I live in what's been voted as the worst town in the UK, Cumbernauld. So I should have plenty of ways to improve it.
1. Art
We have statues and weird modern art, but it's out of place and the rest of the town is gray and boring. Lights and color would help boost peoples mood more.
Japan has unique manhole covers, which led to the inspiration of the 90's craze pogs. Small things like this change people's moods really quickly.
Minimalism has took out a lot of joy. Bring back some fun.
2. Lights at side of street
Like led strips along streets that light up at night. I think that it would look really nice, improves people's mood at night when walking home and could even lead to some nice photos which will help spread a more positive view of the city.
3. Photo spots
When you visit a new city you're always looking for photo spots. What if that became a focus? Paint one house baby blue. Have a weird statue. Paint something on a wall.
Or be like Tokyo and build a huge gundam.
4. Ktv
I loved ktv in China. We get pub Kareoke here but it's not the same. Ktv is a building full of ktv machines. You go with friends, hire a room and sing /drink with just them. This allows shy folk to try and for more songs to be sung.
5. Park
Bits of nature you can walk through. Add some nice wildlife, different trees and a lake and you have something nice to do on a day off.
