Telegrams
A mention of the telegraph reminded me that oddly there are still millions of telegrams sent each year. Although I believe all are now digital and do not depend on telegraphers or land lines.
1. Because they charge per word,
Telegrams encourage brevity
2. In some cultures, their use is traditional
Such as in Italy
3. They are still used for real time recording of some legal transactions
4. Some people just think they are cool, like getting a snail mail letter marked "air mail."
5. Radiograms
Same idea as the original telegrams but done today completely free by volunteer Amateur Radio (HAM) operators.
