Ten Of My Habits
And if they're good, bad or indifferent... in my humble opinion.
1. Morning Coffee
Some days, it is what gets me out of bed and out the door. Health benefits... depends on what "experts" one believes. I'll take the "good" version.
2. Check Car Door Handle
When I lock it with the remote, just to make sure. Good because then I don't sweat whether or not I locked the car. Bad because it is a compulsion.
3. NotePD
Normally do my list at work (like now, don't tell the boss! But, it does get my brain going for the work day). Some of my lists are silly, others may be interesting, maybe even insightful, but being here gets me moving. Always interested also in how other folks view things. So, this is good!
4. Fish Time
I have a 40 gallon tropical aquarium. Besides tending to feeding, cleaning, etc., I also spend some time just watching. Otherwise, why have it? Good!
5. Doom Scrolling
When I get home after a rough (or boring) day, I get home and doom scroll unless I have something specific to do. Why? I think it is trying to keep "on top" of things, in case "something" happens.
While I listened to the news on the radio (under the pillow) since I was a kid, ever since 9/11/01 I've been (stupidly) neurotic about "something" happening.
B.A.D.
6. "Morning Nap"
I wake up stupidly early (3:30am or so - regardless of when I go to sleep). After feeding the pets, I try to get some more sleep by napping on the couch. It gets me close to six hours of sleep, but not the best way to do it.
Why not just go back to sleep, in bed? My brain gets going. Weekends are better, but not by much.
Bad habit.
7. Complaining About The Dog
When I wake up, the dog wants to go out. Not to do his business, but to "survey his domain." Our front door Ring probably has hours of my stream of complaints and trying to get him back in the house so I can take my nap. This is a bad habit...
8. Checking Storm Door
Entering or exiting, always check that it latches. Good reason for it - the dog will get out if I don't and I'm too old and slow to chase him.
9. Slippers On
When I get home, the shoes / sneakers come off, the slippers go on. All to do with comfort... they have good soles, so can go outside with them on and be OK stepping on an acorn. One day last week, almost got into the car to go to work with the slippers on... Comfort is good, so as long as I leave them home, this is good.
10. Friday Breakfast Sandwich
At work, after I get the first couple to-dos done. Pork Roll (they don't use Taylor brand), egg & cheese on a hard roll with salt, pepper, ketchup on a buttered roll. [Not great nutritionally, but FANTASTIC for the taste buds]. Oh, also get a couple lottery tickets... on the hope of winning a free ticket or a few bucks.
If I work from home on a Friday, will go to the local convenience store... theirs isn't quite as good, but isn't bad at all. But I skip the lottery tickets there for some reason.
