Ten Things We Believe That Probably Aren't True
Know-it-alls generally don't. Some proof...
1. We only use 10% of our brains
Brain scans show we use virtually all parts of our brain—even while resting.
2. Vikings wore horned helmets
No evidence supports this. The horned helmet idea came from 19th-century opera costumes
3. You swallow 8 spiders a year in your sleep
Pure myth. Spiders avoid humans and aren’t crawling into your mouth at night.
4. Shaving makes hair grow back thicker
It just looks that way because shaved hair has a blunt tip. No effect on growth rate or thickness.
5. Goldfish have a 3-second memory
They can actually remember things for weeks and even be trained.
6. The Great Wall of China is visible from space
Not with the naked eye. It blends into the landscape too well.
7. Cracking knuckles causes arthritis
Annoying? Maybe. But no medical link to arthritis.
8. Bulls hate the color red
They’re actually color-blind to red. It’s the motion of the cape that angers them.
9. The tongue has specific taste zones
All parts of the tongue can detect sweet, salty, bitter, sour, and umami.
10. Einstein failed math
Nope. He was a math prodigy. The myth likely comes from confusion over grading systems.
