The 10 laws of power you need to follow at work
There may be more laws, but here are the ones I think that are most important
1. Never outshine the master
2. Always say less than necessary
Especially when it comes to gossip, rumours, secrets or other things that you probably shouldn't share.
3. Win through actions not argument
Easiest way to win an argument is through taking action and showing the result
4. Act with boldness
They say that fortune favors the brave and so when you make decisions or take action, don't waft or be ambiguous.
5. Make your feats seem effortless
I've spent hours developing, refining, and practicing presentations so it seems like I just know it.
6. Be formless
When you're early in your career, say yes to more things. You don't know what you like or don't like yet so it's good to get exposure to as many things as possible so you can make a better decision when it comes to specialization.
7. Beware the free lunch
Nothing comes free. Things that are worth having are worth paying for. Be afraid of the promotion that lands on your lap or the raise or bonus out of nowhere.
8. Make yourself indispensable
Nothing can prevent you from getting fired or laid off but making yourself indispensable and valuable reduces the likelihood this will happen.
9. Don't be infected by misery and misfortune
Nobody likes negative people. And they especially don't like hanging around with them. So don't. And don't be negative.
10. Protect your reputation
Your reputation is what helps you stay at the company. When people start saying that you have a reputation for bad work or talking down to customers, even if it's not true, your time at the company will be short.
