1. How my ego betrays my true nature and well-being.
My ego makes me believe that I am an isolated individual distinct from others. My ego encourages me to become overly attached to my self-identity, including the roles I play, my beliefs, and especially my possessions. My ego leads me to rigid thinking, defensiveness, and an unwillingness to change.
I notice how my ego operates from a place of fear, constantly seeking to protect itself and maintain control. In truth what I experience are feelings of anxiety, insecurity, and a reluctance to take risks. I notice how eager my ego is to judge and criticize both itself and others. It creates a constant inner chatter of self-doubt, comparison, and negativity.
Yes, my ego resists change and clings to the familiar, even if it is detrimental. I notice how my ego has a disregard for the well-being of others. But my ego's sneakiest trick is to have me identify with my thoughts and emotions, making me believe that my inner narratives define who I am.
