The Truth About Santa (Short Story)
A short Christmas story, based on an idea I had earlier this week. Hope you enjoy.
1. Goodbye innocence
The snow is falling. Carolers are singing. Everyone's happy. Christmas lights cover a house and through the window we see a young boy and his father.
'Karl you're 6. You're a big boy now. And because you're a big boy I'm going to tell you some big boy secret' karl looks up at his dad, giddy with excitement. What could this big boy secret be? 'Santa...' a secret about santa! Wow! I can't wait to find out. Tell me. Tell me. Tell me. 'does not...' oh no. It can't be true. Can it? 'exist' nnnnnooooo...... Heartbreak. Karl takes a step back after that devastating hit of knowledge. 'but... But.... But....' the dad places his arm on Karl's shoulder 'it's me and your mum. We bought your presents. It's always been us. Santa's just for babies. You're not a baby, big six year old. Are you?' karl breaks down in tears. The father hugs him.
2. The truth shall set you free
The next day, at school Karl is determined to tell his friends the truth. He sees santa decorations hung up on the corridors, which enrages him. They're all in on the conspiracy. Spreading lies and deceit to everyone. Disgusting! Karl starts to tear down all the decorations in anger. 'lies, lies, lies!' he tears down a fair bit until the teacher grabs and stops him. 'What the hell do you think you're doing?' Karl kicks her in the shin, everyone is now watching the commotion. 'you're a lier. You're all lies. Santa doesn't exist. My dad told me. It's our parents that buy our presents' all the kids step back in shock. Some cry. The teacher then grabs Karl and pulls him away to her office. Karl soon leaves in tears.
3. The SANTA conspiracy
Later on in the day all the big boys and girls got called to the assembly. For a special announcement. 'I'd like to debunk the rumours going around that santa doesn't exist. Of course he does. If santa doesn't exist, then who's this?' bells start chiming. The lights dim. And in walks... Santa? A fat man, in a red suit with a big white beard. 'ho, ho, ho merry Christmas'. A few of the babies where convinced by this cheep trick. But not those that had broken free from the matrix. It was so clear that it was just Mr. Brown, the janitor, in a costume. Disgusting.
Everyone lined up to talk to him. The first few kids where all sheeple. 'we love you Santa. We believe in you. We're all brain dead morons' 'ho ho ho I know you've been good this year. I'll make sure you have a great Christmas', but not all kids where idiots. Karl was next in line and he wasn't going to stand for any more of this propaganda. 'hi' santa'' Karl says sarcastically.' What would you like for Christmas Karl? ' Karl looks up at him, eye to eye.' What would I like? I'd like for you to stop treating us like babies. You don't exist. You're nothing but a lier! 'then Karl pulls his beard. Reveling Mr. Brown underneath.' lier lier lier! ' the kids all start chanting. Mr. Brown gets enraged' I'll show you who doesn't exist 'he whispers.' what? 'replies Karl.' you'll see. You'll all see '
4. Silent night
It's Christmas eve. Karl's tucked up in bed. His mum finishes reading him his story and kisses his forehead. 'goodnight Karl. Get your rest it will be a busy day tomorrow'. Karl drifts off and Mum goes downstairs and lays out the presents under the tree with dad. They enjoy a little drink together and just as their ready to head to bed they hear a noise from the old fireplace. They turn and look, what could it be? Then boom! Something falls. Fat man, red suit, white beard. Santa? 'Ho ho ho!' mum and dad are shocked. Dad walks towards him slowly 'who the hell are you?' santa gets onto his feet. 'is it not obvious? I'm Jolly St. Nick. Father Christmas. Santa Claus' Dad steps back and gets into a defensive pose 'What are you doing in our house? Leave now!' Santa smiles 'I'm making kids believe in me again. Someone, I won't say who, is telling all the big boys and girls that I don't exist. We can't have that can we?' santa then drops a blade from inside his sleave and grabs the handle before it falls to the floor. 'Now who would be destroying their innocence?' Dad jumps in front of mum 'Get Karl and run!' Santa leaps forward. Slash! Blood paints the walls and dad falls to the floor. Mum screams 'aaahhh....!!!' Santa grins and slowly walks towards mum. She falls to her knees shaking in fear. Santa hears someone crying. It's not mum though. It's Karl. Hidden behind the door peaking in. Santa turns to face him 'Hi Karl. Believe in me now?' then santa takes another swipe. Mum's blood paints the floor. 'Ho ho ho! Merry Christmas' Santa then leaves the house, skipping and whistleing Christmas tunes.
