Thoughts On Lies
1. Honesty Is The Best Policy
This is a very, very old saying, and yet people lie. Why?
2. People Lie To Avoid Work, Responsibility and other Unpleasantries
A lie can get someone off your back quickly.
3. A Lie Is A Construct
The truth is naturally occurring, and thus eternal like a mountain. A lie is artificial and must be maintained, like a house or structure.
4. Lies Beget More Lies
The original lie requires more lies to buttress it under the stresses of reality.
5. Lying Is Not Gaslighting
Gaslighting is a form of psychological abuse in which a person or group causes someone to question their own sanity, memories, or perception of reality. Whereas a lie is simply an untrue statement.
6. But Lying Can Lead To Gaslighting
Eventually, to maintain the structural integrity of a bunch of lies, it becomes necessary to combat reality itself. Doing that to another's perception of reality is gaslighting.
7. Relationship #1 With A Pathological Liar
One's relationship with a pathological liar can be a contentious one. You have to debate, cross-examine and inspect everything they say, which leads to arguments and 'drama'. This may appeal to some.
8. Relationship #2 With A Pathological Liar
Disengagement. You can be civil and engage in small talk, but never have interactions with them that involve any actual trust.
