Ways to improve patient experience in the Emergency Room.

1. Have a fast track, urgent care track within the ER for urgent, but not emergent cases

2. No need for audible alarms if they are never responded to.

3. Have enough pillows and blankets for each bed.

4. Most ER patients do not need to see a physician. PAs, NPs, etc. are great physician extenders.

5. Each ER bed should have space for 2 family members. Especially pediatrics.

6. Older ERs need to be redesigned. Too much new equipment, consoles, etc. result in cramped spaces.

7. Color code scrubs so it’s easier to understand who you are interacting with.

8. Having patient beds in the halls should not be common practice.

9. There should be at least one direct care team member who is not assigned patients. Their job is extra hands and expediting.

10. Have a way for patients to charge their devices.
