Ways to measure success
This is interesting because we probably all define success differently. There's no wrong answer really beyond not understanding what our specific definition should be for ourselves. This is something to figure out so we don't waste time pursuing the wrong thing.
1. Happiness
Being happy at home is a big one for me.
2. Not worrying about money
This is different than being wealthy and can be achieved by living below your means.
3. Able-bodied
Being 50 or 60 or 70 or any age and still able to get it done is a huge win IMO.
4. Own your time
Set your schedule. Either term works but getting up when you want, doing what you want with your time is another huge win as a form of independence. Time is worth more than money and again, living below your means can get you here.
5. Self-sufficient and resilient
Wherever we each are on these scales we can always improve but being able to solve our own problems is a big one.
6. Orthogonality
The list of societal norms I want to veer away from continues to grow. Mark Baker refers to this is living off the grid in the grid.
