There are also many other calibers that use this same bullet including some pistol versions such as the CZ Scorpion pistol which I own, etc. So why do so many people want to buy these guns? Because they're cheap! You can get an AK-47 style rifle for $400 if you look hard enough whereas an AR-15 costs around $1500 if you don't know how to save money on them (see my other list on this page). And they are very reliable and easy to modify since they were designed by Russians back when Russia was broke so they couldn't afford anything fancy. They just wanted something that worked well at close range so people could kill each other if needed to defend their farms from bandits stealing their food during famines, etc.. And it worked! Now millions of Americans want one too because...they're cheap! And fun to modify! There's even a website called "Saiga12news" where people post their modifications on their Saigas and everyone else posts comments about how great their mods are, etc.. I love it! I want one myself but since I live in an apartment with neighbors who might complain about me shooting it, I haven't yet bought one although I'm thinking about it more every day now that Trump has been elected president and we're headed towards war with Russia over Crimea, Ukraine, Syria, North Korea, China, Iran, ISIS ,etc., etc., etc.. Note: there's also a 5.56 x 45 NATO cartridge which looks similar but is not compatible with all 5 56 rifles because some have different types of bolts than others which means you can't just swap bullets between them like you can with regular 5 56 ammo which uses regular AR-15s as well as AKs although again...not sure why anyone would want to do this since both bullets have similar characteristics regardless of what gun they were shot out of.
