What are the most important events in my life? 2

A continuation of yesterdays list.

    1. Epilepsy

I've got epilepsy. I figured this out after taking a fit after a night of drinking, at 19. It was a real scare. Up until then i felt immortal, that really frightened me and showed just how short life is. I believe death is a lot like the blackout stage during/after the fit. People can interact with 'me', but it's not me. It's someone/something else that's took control of my body. `I think dementia is similar. There's glimpses of the real person, but for the most part they're gone.

I was on tablets for a long time, but after moving to China i was no longer able to get them, so i weaned myself off them. Thats 9 years without tablets and i've only had two fits since then. Both due to drinking too much. I've cut down to drinking next to nothing. One or two on the odd occasion i pop out. I don't miss it. Enjoying the sober life.

I wouldn't say I'm anti-vax, but i think finding natural ways to control your body is always better than medicine. If there's no option then of course medicine beats suffering/death.

    2. China

I always sucked at English, but somehow I got a job teaching it. The first month was tough, but i quickly got into the flow of things and became one of the top teachers in China. I was voted the 19th best in English First and won a SINA star teacher award.

My time in China showed me that no matter how bad you may be at something, with hard work you can quickly become one of the best. This really opened my eyes to being able to 'do the impossible' since then I've chose an impossible goal, gave it my all and tried to accomplish it. It's surprising how often i accomplish these challenges.

I started with going from reading nothing to reading a book a month. I think i managed over 15 that year. I became a senior teacher. I was training teachers so they could be half as good as me. I've published books. I made a short course teaching Chinese. I ran a clothing website myself. I'm living in Japan!

The key for me with these challenges is having faith in myself. I start out knowing they look impossible, but i have fait that if I set sail and make adjustments along the way, I'll reach my destination. This type of faith is a superpower. Set yourself an impossible task and atchieve it. Continue this practice until you know that you can accomplish anything you set your mind towards.

    3. Covid

I experienced covid in china. That scarred me. I lasted about 2 weeks, isolated alone in my home, before i snapped and headed to Beijing to get the next flight home.

Oh I almost forgot, i was heading to the airport without a valid passport. I accidentally washed it. I wasn't thinking straight. Luckily on the train to Beijing the embassy called and said they'd be able to see me the following day. So i had to book a hotel. That wasn't easy, but after spending the day looking i finally found one at night. Nice little place. Impossible to find though.

The next day i got my emergency passport. A golden book. Very cool. And booked my flight. I was going home.

I had a few weeks of freedom back in Scotland, before they started lockdowns. It was nice being with my family. I did some volunteering as a Befriender. Calling people up and making life a little easier for them. I can't lie, i enjoyed it. I had so much free time to work on projects. If that's what retirment is like i can't wait.
