What I like about airports
1. Plane spotting
Years ago there was a viewing park at the airport and many people would drive there with sandwiches and flasks, and hang out to watch the planes.
2. Shopping
I used to work near the airport and at lunchtime we would sometimes pop over if we needed to buy something. Or just to get a coffee. I don't think you can do this now unless you have a ticket.
3. A night out
When I lived in London I would occasionally drive to Heathrow. I'd go on my own or with a friend. We might have Harry Ramsden's fish and chips.
4. Duty free
It was always fun looking through duty free for bargains.
5. The adventure
Being in an airport always felt like the start of a new adventure. The beginning of a journey. Sometimes that was the start of living in a different country.
6. People watching
I like to arrive in good time so that I can get checked in, have a look around, get a latte, journal, and sit and watch people around me.
7. Celeb spotting
I've seen a few celebs at different airports. I once had a brief chat with photographer David Bailey.
8. Arrivals
Waiting for someone you're picking up or being picked up by someone waiting for you.
